Turbulators

The aerodynamics of the Sparrow operates much like that of a golf ball. As the Sparrow is being driven through the air mass, the dimples create turbulence in the layer of air next to the vehicle (the “boundary layer”). In this situation, a turbulent boundary layer reduces overall drag and the resulting eddy currents in its wake. This allows the Sparrow to move with greater efficiency.

You will note these “Turbulators” have been placed on areas where the Sparrow’s body is exiting the air mass where we want to eliminate drag, not on the front end where a smoother entry is desired.
